Top performers from 2nd annual Colts Invitational

Detroit - Head coach, Jimmy Hill, and the Colts of Detroit Northwestern hosted their second annual Colts Invitational 7-on-7, with many of metro Detroit's best teams, and players in attendance. Teams like powerhouse, Detroit Cass Tech, Detroit East English Village Prep, Belleville (Mich.), Detroit Mumford, and some other participated in the event, with the Panthers of River Rouge (Mich.) taking home the trophy, taking down Cass Tech in the final. Here are some of the top performers from the event, both on offense and defense.
.Detroit East English Village Prep 2017 QB Delvin Washington: Arguably the top player in the state at his position in the class of 2017, Washington wowed the crowd on hand with his ability to throw the ball in tight spaces, and throw a perfect spiral. At 6-3, 230-pounds, Washington has a strong arm, and the ball just zipped out of his hand. His receivers dropped a lot of his balls, but his placement of them was still impressive. The transfer from Harper Woods (Mich.) Chandler Park Academy is still waiting on is first offer.

.River Rouge (Mich.) 2018 DB Reggie Pearson: There are a bunch of young impressive defensive backs in the state, and Pearson is one of them. Playing strong safety, he already has a nice solid build, and saw very few balls thrown his way, and for good reason. He picked off three balls on the day, including a game-sealing interception in the final against Cass Tech. Akron, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan have all offered the rising sophomore.
.Detroit Cody 2016 DB-WR Kevin Mahone: An under the radar player in the city, Mahone had a field day at cornerback, jamming any and everyone in front of him. Not many wide receivers were able to get off the line against him, with his strength and outstanding size at 6-2, 180-pounds. Mahone's head coach at Cody said he has garnered some Division I interest, but no one has offered yet.
.Detroit Cass Tech 2018 LB DeAndre Square: Deemed the next best thing out of that powerhouse program in the state, Square certainly looked the part. He's lean right now at 6-1, 190-pounds, but will fill out in time. He flew to the ball, and was athletic enough to cover running backs and receivers going across the middle in coverage. He should have a breakout season in 2015. Cincinnati has already offered him.
.Detroit Cass Tech 2018 QB Aaron Jackson: Junior, Rodney Hall, might have to look over his shoulder for the starting quarterback job at Cass Tech, with Jackson coming along this off-season. He started off shaky, with a couple of interceptions, but soon got things together, leading the Technicians to the finals. They lost, but Jackson was solid. He has size (6-2,200-pounds), and a big arm. He needs some more polishing, but he has some potential.
.Detriot Ceasar Chavez 2016 QB Omar Salih: No one speaks a lot of a small school in the southwest part of city, so Salih is a bit unknown. He played his junior year at Detroit Cody, and is now back with his old team. He's only about 6-0, on a good day, but he knows how to carve up a defense. A 7-on-7 setting is perfect for Salih, who just sat back and threw to whoever was open. He holds to state passing records, with 689 yards passed for, and nine touchdowns. He did that as a sophomore in 2013.
.Detroit Northwestern 2016 QB Danny Whitt: The only thing that may be holding Whitt back, is his size (6-1) and some exposure. Other than that, Whitt can certainly heave it downfield, and had his best game of the day against Cass Tech, tossing a couple of bombs down the field to fellow senior, Michael Marion. He doesn't get a lot of shine because of where he plays, but his 1,359 yards passing, 60% completion percentage, and 16 touchdowns shows that he can play.
.Detroit Cass Tech 2016 WR Marcel Paul: Cass Tech has so many quality athletes on their team, that many of them get lost in the shuffle. Paul is an example of that, and should have an opportunity to show what he can do this season. Paul has good size at 6-3, 175-pounds, and was catching fade passes on smaller defensive backs all day. He dropped some passes, but he can also run, and should be able to earn an offer sooner or later.
.Detroit Northwestern 2016 WR Michael Marion: The first play of the game, Marion took Cass Tech cornerback, Donovan Johnson, deep for a touchdown. On the next possession, he did it again. Size might not be on his side, but Marion is super quick and has speed to burn at 5-8, 160-pounds. He is definitely a threat to score on offense anytime he touches the ball.
.Detroit Cass Tech 2016 DB Demetric Vance: He came late to the event, but left with a few interceptions in his pocket. The 6-2, 196-pounder is already committed to Michigan State, so he has nothing more to prove in a 7-on-7 setting. Vance showed nice instinct and athleticism from his safety position, jumping routes, and locking up much smaller receivers.
