Detroit Central (2-1) at Detroit Renaissance (3-0) Friday, 4 p.m.
Looking for some quality Detroit Public School League action? Central at Renaissance should be worth your $5. The Trailblazers were upset by Denby last Friday, and will look to get their offense back on track with top quarterback in the city El Julian Jordan (Western Michigan) and his plethora of offensive weapons. Renaissance is 3-0 for the first time since 2004, and in his first year as head coach of the Phoenix, Drake Wilkins Sr., has already turned the program around. Expect a lot of touchdowns to be scored in this games.
Utica Eisenhower (3-0) at Clinton Township Chippewa Valley (3-0) Friday, 7 p.m.
Chippewa Valley is off to its best start since the 2013 season when they won their first seven games. The Big Reds have two big wins under their belt in 2017, against Lake Orion and Romeo. But they host an Eisenhower team that has been nothing short of dominate to begin the year, with wins over Oak Park and Dakota. Ike senior quarterback Max Wittwer is one of the best in the state, and will provide a challenge for the Chippewa Valley defense.
Oak Park (2-1) at Birmingham Groves (3-0) Friday, & p.m.
Oak Park began the season with a tough loss to Utica Eisenhower, but has since posted back-t0-back shutouts on defense against Rochester and Birmingham Seaholm. The Knights' potent offense with quarterback Dwan Mathis seems like it has found its stride. Groves enters the season 3-0 for the fourth consecutive year, and has instantly become a force in the Oakland Activities Association. The Falcons have wins over Novi, Stoney Creek, and Berkley, but Oak Park will present a different kind of test.
Detroit Catholic Central (2-1) at Cleveland St. Ignatius (3-0) Friday, 7 pm.
Catholic Central plays the toughest football schedule in the state of Michigan. They lost to a good Toledo Whitmer team two weeks ago, and will travel to Cleveland to play an always tough St. Ignatius team. The Shamrocks won last year's meeting 28-21. St. Ignatius is the top team in Northeast Ohio, and the atmosphere there will be hostile for CC. But this is not a test that CC has not seen before and cannot handle. The game will be well worth the drive.
Canton (2-1) at Plymouth Salem (2-1) Friday, 7 p.m.
Canton won't have to travel far to play rival Salem. As a matter of fact, its right next door. Both teams enter Friday night's game with the same record, Canton with wins over Plymouth and Hartland and Salem defeating Howell and Brighton. But Salem has not beaten Canton since 1999! A streak this team will proudly be happy to end come Friday.
