Toledo the first to offer 2017 DB Donovan Johnson

After a dominating performance in the Detroit Public School League title game back in October for Detroit Cass Tech sophomore defensive back, Donovan Johnson, in which he helped hold top 100 talent, Donnie Corley, to five catches for 49 yards, and one touchdown, his play during that game was certainly offer worthy. One never ensued, but the 5-9, 165-pounder remained patient, until Toledo became the first to offer him on yesterday.
Rockets defensive backs coach, D.K. Mcdonald, who has a strong presence in the area, was the one to offer Johnson. A strong gesture by Toledo, who gets an early jump on Johnson's recruitment.

"They came up to the school, and Coach Wilcher was talking to him," Johnson said of McDonald and the. "And when he left, Coach Wilcher told me I got the offer.
"I was shocked and happy, and I thanked Coach Wilcher for all he did for me."
Toledo has had a good relationship with the Cass Tech football program, boasting two former players on their current roster, and offering many more over the past few years. Like those past players, there is some interest from Johnson, who visited the Toledo campus before.
"I visited last year, and I did like how it's close," Johnson said of Toledo. "The coaches were cool, and it was nice to meet them. I don't know yet when I'll return, but I'm going to have to plan something soon."
Johnson also listed interest from Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State, and will be a sought after recruit in no time. The Toledo offer is just the beginning for this technician at defensive back. He's a bit on the short side, but makes up for it with his speed, and technique. A very productive sophomore year for Johnson, in which he started for Cass Tech, helped him land his first offer, and more will follow.
"If definitely feels like my hard work has paid off," he said. "But I can't stop working. I have to keep doing what I been doing."
Johnson's plans to visit schools and camp are incomplete as of right now, but he does plan to attend the Sound Mind Sound Body Academy in June, and travel with Cass Tech on their annual summer camp tour around the East Coast.
