St.Marys vs. Chandler Park Academy recruiting notes

HARPER WOODS, Mich. - Orchard Lake St. Mary's took care of Chandler Park Academy handily, 56-26, on Friday night. And while the game wasn't competitive from the jump, there was still plenty of talent to see on both teams. I recap here.
-- St. Mary's junior running back, Ryan Johnson, took advantage of every opportunity he had on the night, with his team maintaining a healthy lead over Chandler Park Academy. Johnson doesn't have ideal size, at 5-8, 175-pounds, but he has speed to burn, and that was on display on every carry. Johnson had long runs of 57-yards, and 37-yards, that both went for scores. With his speed alone, Johnson can be an asset in someone's offense or on special teams as a returner.

-- You'd be hard pressed to find a more versatile player in the state than OLSM junior, Kahlee Hamler. And don't let the 5-9, 165-pound frame fool you, he's a baller. Hamler had a very impressive return in the first half, where he made the entire CPA team miss, on his way to the end zone, before falling down at the 1-yard line. Hamler didn't play much, due to his team's huge lead, but showed that when given the opportunity, he can do a lot with the ball in his hands, in all three phases of the game. It'll interesting to see what he plays in college.
-- Everyone knows that OLSM loves to run the ball, and run the ball a lot. The Eaglets like to spread the love around, and rolled out a number of productive backs against CPA, including seniors, Pierce Bauer, Justin Myrick, Troy Marks, and Brandon Adams, as well as Johnson, and sophomore, Rashawn Allen. Mix that with a good offensive line, and it's going to be along day for any defense.
-- CPA lost by 30, but had a few bright spots on the offensive side of the ball, most notably, 2016 wide receiver, Jalen Martin. A physical specimen at 6-3, 210-pounds, Martin caught two touchdown passes on the day, including a catching a fade pass in the back of the end zone, where he used that big body to shield the defender. Martin is also a pretty good runner at his size, and holds a number of MAC offers. He's waiting to hear from a few bigger schools before he decides.
-- The Eagles running game was also promising, with senior, DJ Griffin, toting the rock. The 5-10, 190-pounder used to play for Detroit King two years ago, so he has some talent. More of a bruising runner, Griffin showed some nice speed on a few runs against OLSM. He had a very impressive 80-yard touchdown run in the third. Griffin is still looking for his first offer.
-- By far the tallest player on the field, CPA junior two-way lineman, Johnny Jordan, is one physically impressive player at 6-7, 260-pounds. Very raw, but Jordan didn't look too bad playing left tackle. It's hard to overlook his size, and with some coaching, and maturity, could be a steal for someone willing to take him on.
-- CPA loves its young quarterbacks. Two years ago, it was Delvin Washington starting for them as a freshman. Washington is now playing in the Detroit PSL, so enters 2019 signal-caller, Marquez Steele. He's still very much raw, but you expect that. But Steele has solid size at 6-2, 151-pounds, and tosses a nice spiral. He threw two touchdowns in his second career start. Definitely a name to keep an eye on down the line.
