Pershing over Pontiac Northern in MLK thriller
The most exciting game of Sundays MLK classic at Pontiac Northern was the last game of the day, Detroit Pershing vs. Pontiac Northern.

The game was close throughout. Pontiac Northern led at the end of the first quarter 16 to 14. 6'2 sophomore Timothy Williams led the way for Pontiac Northern with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Deshawn Sims had 5 for Pershing in the first quarter.
Pershing cranked up the defense and outscored the Huskies 20 to 14 in the second quarter to take a 34 to 30 halftime lead. 6'4 sr. guard Jabari Currie scored 10 points in the quarter and 6'4 sr. forward Edgar Jones came off the bench to score 6 points for Pershing.
The teams were even in the third quarter at 17 apiece. Timothy Williams had nine in the quarter for Pontiac Northern. 6'8 jr. forward Deshawn Sims began to heat up scoring eleven points in the quarter. Pershing led after three quarters 51 to 47.
The forth quarter saw several lead changes, as the game was a seesaw affair down the stretch. 6'4 sr. Arthur Wilson had been quiet for Pontiac Northern scoring only 2 points in the first quarter. He was on a roll in the forth quarter scoring 9 points. De'Andre Hall added seven points in the quarter. Pershing was up 65-62 when Hall hit a three pointer with 15.8 seconds to go to tie the game at 65. After calling time out, Pershing got the ball to Sims who missed a fade away from the right block as time ran out in regulation.
The lead changed back and forth throughout the overtime period. Edgar Jones fouled Martell Webb with 1:27 left. Webb made one of two free throws. Bryan Smothers fouled Andre Ricks with 57.1 seconds left in overtime, Ricks made both free throws to bring Pershing to within 2. Edgar Jones fouled out with 29.3 seconds to go sending Martell Webb back to the line where he again made one of two free throws to put Pontiac Northern up 72-70. Jabari Currie dribbled the ball off his foot with 25.2 seconds to go for what appeared to be a costly turn over. Deshawn Sims got a steal with 16 seconds left. Pershing called time out to set the play. The ball was inbounded to Sims who was fouled by Martell Webb with 9.5 seconds left. Sims converted both free throws to tie the game at 72. As Pontiac Northern passed the ball into the frontcourt, Sims fouled Webb with 7.0 seconds to go. Webb made one of two free throws to put Pontiac Northern up 73 to 72. After a Pershing time out, Pershing pushed the ball up court passing to Sims on the right block. Sims had the same shot that he missed at the end of regulation. This time, he didn't miss. The soft jumper went in as the buzzer sounded.
Deshawn Sims led all scorers with 26 points. Jabari Currie had 15, Edgar Jones 12 and Andre Ricks 9 for Pershing. For Pontiac Northern, De'Andre Hall had 20, Timothy Williams 19, Arthur Wilson had 11 and Martell Webb chipped in with 9.
