Michigan 2016 commit Austin Davis at Spiece

FT.WAYNE, Ind. - The 2015 Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam All-Star Classic, wasted no time putting together a match-up of the better 17-Under teams in the event, with the Michigan Mustangs battling it out with King James. Each team boasts a number of high-major players on their rosters, including Michigan 2016 center commit, Austin Davis, who plays for the Mustangs.
Davis, who committed to the Wolverines over two weeks ago, had a solid first game at Spiece, scoring 11 points, pulling down 14 rebounds, and blocking two shots. The 6-10, 240-pounder takes up a lot of space, is an excellent rebounder using his girth well, and did a lot of his scoring on the offensive glass on put-backs. Davis' team lost 63-48, but it is still early in the tourney for the depleted Mustangs.

"I was just trying to play my game," Davis said. "we didn't play well as a team, or to our strengths, and we played sloppy, but our best is yet to come."
Davis will dawn the Maize and Blue of Michigan next year, and will play against Ohio State once he gets there. He got a taste of what the rivalry will be like, against King James 6-9 center, Derek Funderburk, who just so happens to be committed to the Buckeyes for 2016, which didn't seem to bother Davis at all.
"I didn't know who he was coming here, but I did hear that he was committed there," said Davis of Ohio State commit Derek Funderburk. "He was a good player, but I tried not to focus on it, and just do what I do well, and stick to that. But I am definitely excited about the rivalry with them."
Just from talking to Davis for a few minutes, he is a focused young man, and was excited anytime Michigan was mentioned. He grew up a Michigan fan, and it was always his dream to play for his childhood team. Head coach John Beilein helped make that dream become a reality, and Davis hasn't looked back since.
"I'm definitely excited about getting to Michigan when it is my time," said Davis. "Who wouldn't want to go there? It is an amazing school, and I always wanted to play there as a kid. The opportunity presented itself, and I was ready to jump all over it.
"I talk to Coach Beilein about once a week. We talked last time about the tournament, and he just calls to check on me, and stuff like that. I plan on going back to Michigan for a visit, but I don't know when."
