John Callahan built Loyola football into a state power. Now the west side of Detroit catholic school will look to hire another coach to carry on what Callahan started. A source closed to the football program told Michigan Preps that Callahan made his decision to resign a couple of days ago. The school made it official via Twitter today.
"Respected and Successful Football Coach John Callahan Resigns after 8 seasons and 1 State championship. Good Luck Cal!" the school's Twitter page read.
Callahan took over the program in 2009, going 86-16 in that time span. From 2011-2016 Loyola won no less than 10 games, and made it to the Division 7 state final three times in a row from 2012-2014, finally winning it all in 2014 over Ishpeming. The Bulldogs lost to Pewamo-Westphalia in last year's Division 7 final.
