East Lansing Denies LCC Perfect Season
The Lansing Catholic Central Cougars (18-1) had their bid for a perfect season denied Tuesday night as they fell to the East Lansing Trojans (14-5), 70-46.
"We were a little down after the loss on Friday and coach just told us to be aggressive to try to give them their first loss," East Lansing guard Tracy Edmond said.

After both teams struggled early failing to make a shot in the first three minutes of the game, Lansing Catholic's Steve Repichowski was able to get the Cougars on the board. Repichowski scored the Cougars' first seven points and put Lansing Catholic ahead early.
With the Trojans trailing 12-7, East Lansing's Edmond took over leading the Trojans on a 41-6 run that extended into the third quarter. Edmond was able to use his quick dribble to penetrate and break down the Cougars' defense.
"My teammates were getting me open and I was driving the ball hard," Edmond said. "It was just going in for me tonight."
At the half, the Trojans led the Cougars 35-18.
"Our first half was the best first half we've played in my two years at East Lansing," East Lansing coach Steve Finamore said. "We really stuck to the game plan."
In the third quarter, the Trojans showed no signs of stopping as John McAdoo extended East Lansing's huge run with seven of their 13 straight points to start the second half.
With 4:22 remaining in the third quarter, Repichowski made a free throw ending the Trojans' run with East Lansing ahead 48-19.
"We wanted to stop Stevie Repichowski and we did a great job on him. We wanted to push the ball up the court and we pushed the ball up the court," Finamore said. "Those were our two staples."
The Trojans were extremely balanced on offense as they had four players in double figures. McAdoo pitched in 12 points, Ahmad Newsome scored 11 and Javon Haines scored 14 with Edmond leading the way with a game-high 28 points.
"Best performance by Tracy Edmond in my two years at East Lansing," Finamore said. "He's under the radar, one of the most under-rated point guards I've seen in my lifetime."
For Lansing Catholic, the Cougars struggled to find their shot and couldn't seem to handle the Trojans high pressure.
"We didn't shoot the basketball very well but part of that was I thought East Lansing dictated tempo," Lansing Catholic Central coach Darren Zwick said. "They really forced us out of what we wanted to do."
Repichowski led the Cougars with 15 points while Jacob Bullock scored 11 points and Cooper Rush pitched in eight points.
With most of East Lansing's starters resting, the Cougars were able to hit some open three pointers but it was too little, too late as the Trojans gave the Cougars their first loss, 70-46.
"They certainly will (bounce back)," Zwick said. "I've got a lot of confidence in these guys and we have a lot of veteran players in there and we got to stay together."
After wrapping up the division with a perfect 10-0 record, the Cougars have one more game against Holt before they head into districts against Charlotte.
"You've got to survive every game and our focus is Charlotte," Zwick said. "You obviously hope to get to Friday."
Coming off a 75-72 loss at Okemos last Friday, the Trojans were able to get back on track and gain some confidence before they host Lansing Waverly for senior night Thursday.
"In my two years at East Lansing, we have not lost two games in a row," Finaore said. "These guys, it's all because of them, they bounce back from a loss."
