The last time Michigan received a commitment from any player out of the Detroit Public School League, it was 2007, and the player was Corperryale Harris of Redford. East English Village Prep's David Dejulius ended the nine-year drought, committing to the Wolverines right after his game tonight.

The 6-1, 190-pound guard received the offer from head coach John Beilein less than a week ago, where he scored 46 points in front of the head man, and did not waste any time committing to his dream school. Dejulius is averaging over 30 points per game this season.

"I am happy to end it early," Dejulius said. "Now I can focus on a high school state title, and a Peach Jam title. Sometimes us as players are so pressured to perform for offers, that we don't play the game the right way."

Dejulius told Michigan coaches that he was coming to Ann Arbor right before his game. He is the first commitment in the Wolverines' 2018 cycle.

"They were all yelling and cheering on the phone," Dejulius said of Michigan coaches. "Coach Beilein told me my commitment was a great Christmas present."

"Michigan is 45 minutes from home, it's one of the top educational schools, they are known for their point guards, and it is a great environment. They want me to come make a big impact from day-one."

Michigan is getting a scoring point guard in Dejulius, who is improving his all-around game, and shooting. He hit nine 3-pointers in his 46-point performance. He is a physically strong guard and can get to the rim against anyone. His work ethic is what his head coach Juan Rickman raves the most about, and he is a player that continuously wants to get better.

"Michigan is a getting a great kid," Rickman said. "He's a potential all Big Ten player, and he works hard. He is low-maintenance, and he can just flat-out play."

"I knew that Michigan was his dream school, and I wanted him to take his time and make a smart decision. Because when Dave is stuck on something, he's stuck. But I think he made a great decision, and Michigan is getting a great player and great person."
