The Detroit Cass Tech Basketball program will be receiving a new addition to the roster in the form of 6-foot-5 Wing, Marlin Mason. Mason, who transferred this summer from Farmington Hills Harrison, is excited about playing in the Detroit Public School League.
"The competition level there is very good. I came to Cass Tech to play against the best. It will only make me a better player. Playing in the P.S.L. will also provide me with more exposure to college coaches," explained Mason. "I just want to come in and help the team get better."
Mason comes to Cass Tech after averaging solid numbers at Harrison last season. An all-around talent, Mason averaged just over 10 PPG, 8 RPG, and 4 BPG. Marlin likes to drive to the basket and finish at the rim. His mid-range jumper is a strength but he also acknowledges that he needs to improve his defense.
"I think the biggest part of my game that needs improvement is my defense." His defensive skills will be tested this season as he joins the toughest basketball league in the state. He will be expected to guard the likes of Pershing G Keith Appling.
Marlin has been busy this summer working on his game by playing AAU basketball with the Southfield Transition and participating in high school summer leagues with his new school. The Southfield Transition is currently in Florida participating in nationals. He has also attended many camps this summer including stops at the Michigan State, Michigan and Duquesne camps.
Mason has started to see some interest from Central Michigan. CMU Coach Ernie Zeigler has had recent success recruiting kids from Cass Tech (PG Jeremy Allen) so look for other colleges to get involved if Mason can continue to produce in the P.S.L.
Good luck to Mason and his teammates at nationals this week.
