Cass Tech 16 WR Marcel Paul commits to Cincinnati

Detroit Cass Tech senior wide receiver, Marcel Paul, arrived on the University of Cincinnati's campus with zero scholarship offers, and left as a member of the Bearcats 2016 recruiting class. Paul said he had no intentions on committing to Cincinnati beforehand, but when the opportunity presented itself, he had to jump at it.
"I just felt like it was home when I went to visit," Paul said of Cincinnati. "I like everything about. The field, the coaches, the campus was really cool, and I just liked everything about it. Once again, I felt like it was home.

The 6-2, 175-pounder camped with the Bearcats on Friday, obviously impressing the coaching staff enough to extend an offer to him. The move was smart on Cincinnati's hand, offering an under the radar kid like Paul, who has good size, hands, and can run. He comes from a winning program at Cass Tech, so if he pans out, would be a steal for them in their type of offense.
"I did well enough at the camp, that the wide receivers coach wanted to offer me," Paul said. "After they offered me, I took a tour around the campus, and I really liked it there. It was convenient, and felt like the place where I wanted to be.
"I feel like they will use me a lot, because they throw the ball around. They use their wide receivers a lot, and I can move around too, to get the ball in my hands."
Paul's decision to commit to Cincinnati instantly after he received an offer might have been a bit premature, but considering that's he hasn't heard from any other schools, it was the right choice. He may hear from some other schools now, but said his commitment to UC is very solid.
Now that Paul doesn't have to worry himself about playing in college, for the time being, he can focus all of his attention on his senior season at Cass Tech. He played a small roll over the past two seasons for the Technicians, playing behind so many Division I guys, but is poised to have a break out season in 2015 as one of the main targets. With no Mike Weber to run the ball anymore, look for Cass Tech to perhaps pass the ball more this season.
"Playing so many good receivers, all I did was learn," said Paul. "But whenever I got in, I said that it was my time to shine, and I wanted to do the best that I could.
"This season I'm going to try to do as much as I can to help my team. I hope to ball out, and contribute as much to the team as I can."
Paul won't have to be Superman for Cass Tech this season, with the Technicians having a whopping 16 players with at least one Division I offer on their roster, including Paul. Cass Tech will have a target on its back once again with all that talent, a position they don't mind being in. Another state title is on their minds, and they certainly have enough talent to win it all.
"We are just working, trying to get better," Paul said of Cass Tech. We work hard every day, compete against each other, and just try to make each other better. The expectations are very high this year, and it's going to take more than talent to win. It's going to take hard work and dedication."
