It's early May, and most of the top high school basketball players in the state of Michigan have already chosen what college they intend on playing, months ago. Everyone besides Hudsonville (Mich.) forward, Brent Hibbitts. That ended yesterday, when Hibbitts decided that he wanted to walk on at the University of Michigan.

The 6-8, 2109-pound versatile forward turned down Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo, Lehigh, and Vermont to become a Wolverine.
"It feels pretty good," Hibbitts said on his decision to finally end his recruitment. "It was a long process, but I feel like I made the right decision, and I'm happy about it.
"The academics at Michigan can't be beat. The style of play really fits me, and I see myself fitting in with their system. I couldn't have asked to play for a better coach, and even better, be apart of a family."
Hibbitts visited Michigan last Thursday, getting a much needed opportunity to view the school's campus and facilities. Hibbitts could have committed then on his visit, he was so impressed with what he saw, but decided to wait. He interest never waivered.
"It was great," Hibbitts said of his visit to Ann Arbor. "I was able to see the academic and athletic sides of campus, as well as sit down with the coaches and talk about their plan for me.
"After my visit, my parents advised me to take a couple of days to think about it, but my never changed, so that's why I pulled the trigger today."
One of the biggest selling points for Hibbitts, and any other recruit who goes to Michigan, is head coach, John Beilein, and his coaching staff. They relate to their players in an incredible way, and most importantly, they develop their players. Beilein has been known to take less, and make it into more. Hibbitts has some size, and a nice skill set to match, with his ability to shoot the ball, and could become a key contributor for Michigan at some point.
"The Michigan coaches are so easy to talk to, and they really go of their way to show recruits and players that they care about them," said Hibbitts. "They said they like me a lot, for my versatility and ability to play their wing/forward position, and can see a good fit with me in the program. They are expecting me to do a little bit of everything to help the team.
"I'm very excited to get to work at Michigan. We should have a really good team this year. I can't wait."
Hibbitts averaged 17.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game as senior at Hudsonville last season, leading his team to a Class A divisional title. His older brother, Blake Hibbitts, plays basketball for Central Michigan.
