Adrian overturns Ann Arbor Pioneer

This game got off to a rough start with both teams turning the ball over 9 times in the first five minutes. Pioneer outlasted Adrian to lead at the quarter 14 to 9. 6'0 senior guard Tony Bossard had 5 points for Pioneer; Adrian had nine points scored by four different players. The two teams combined for 12 turnovers.

Adrian took command in the second quarter outscoring Pioneer 18 to 8. 6'0 sophomore guard Jamar Bonney scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds in the period. Bonney sparked the Adrian defense and made it tough for Pioneer to get an open look. Both teams continued to struggle with turnovers turning it over four times each.
Offense was a challenge for both teams in the third. Pioneer outscored Adrian 10 to 6 and cut their turnovers down to two. 6'7 senior forward Jacob DeRoeck scored all 6 points for Adrian. Adrian continued to have difficulty hanging on to the basketball turning it over 5 times in the quarter. Adrian led 33-31 after three quarters.
DeRoeck and 6'5 senior forward John Skaggs had 8 of the 10 points that Adrian scored in the fourth quarter. DeRoeck was very active as he had 1 block and 5 rebounds in the period. Adrian turned up the defense and held Pioneer to seven points in the quarter. Adrian committed their 19th turnover of the game with 2:32 to go with a 39-38 lead. Pioneer missed a shot and Jimmy Boone fouled Todd Meyers with 2:12 left. Meyers made both free throws to put Adrian up 41-38. DeRoeck fouled London Kelly with 49.5 seconds left, Kelly missed both free throws. There was a jump ball on the rebound, the possession arrow favored Pioneer with 46.7 to go. On the ensuing play, Kelly committed the 15th turnover for Pioneer. Ladel Harris fouled DeRoeck with 26.3 seconds left, the foul was his 5th. DeRoeck made both free throws to put Adrian up five 43-38. Pioneer missed a three; there was a tie up on the rebound the possession to Adrian with 2 seconds left. Game over.
DeRoeck had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Adrian, Jamar Bonney had 9 points all in the second quarter. London Kelly had 7 for Pioneer. One interesting
stat; Adrian had more tournovers than field goals. It wasn't pretty, but this game was exciting at the end.
