2018 DB Reggie Pearson updates recruitment at SMSB

MACOMB, Mich. -The Sound Mind Sound Body camp is back once again in metro Detroit, and once again, there are number of young football prospects looking to make a name for themselves. One of these players is River Rouge (Mich.) freshman safety, Reggie Pearson. He already holds an offer from Akron, joining a number of other class of 2018 and 2019 prospects who have been offered by the Zips.
"For it to be my first offer, I was excited," Pearson said of his lone offer from Akron. "I really wasn't super excited, because I can always get more, and I'm really looking forward to gaining some more. But I am interested in Akron, since they were the first school to give me an offer, so I can show them a little respect for that."

The 5-10, 185-pounder has emerged as one of the best players at his position in his class, and started for River Rouge as a freshman, where he racked up an impressive 58 tackles, six interceptions, and six pass deflections. It's not often that you see true freshman start on varsity, and Pearson showed that he was able to do it, and do it at a high level.
"It was really that bad, but it was tough," said Pearson. "Certain teams had there doubts against me, but that benefitted me, and I just had to knuckle it up, and do what I had to do.
"I'm hoping to coming back next season to help my team win states, get more offers, and keep my grades up."
Pearson is expecting more offers to come sooner than later, as he has been in touch with a number of Mid-American Conference schools, and eventually hopes to hear from bigger schools in the Big Ten, SEC, and ACC down the line, if possible.
"Right now I am talking a lot to Eastern Michigan," Pearson said. "I am going to their 7-on-7 Saturday, and when I do good there, they are going to offer me. I also talk to Toledo sometimes. Whenever I go out there, me and the head coach always have a good conversation."
Aside from excelling on the field, Pearson is also a Division I athlete in the classroom, with a 3.9 GPA, and a 19 on his ACT test, so he understands that you have to focus hard on both aspects of the game to be at your best. At Sound Mind Sound Body, there won't be any classroom testing for Pearson, so he hopes to showcase his abilities on the football field in front of the college coaches when the 1-on-1 portion of the camp begins on Friday.
"I am planning on having a good day," he said. "I don't want any balls caught on me, I can't have that. I have to make sure I finish in the air, and that I come out and do my job."
Pearson is worth keeping and eye on in the future, has he continues to grow into his body, and polishes his defensive back skills.
