2016 PG Justin Turner patient with his recruitment

Much like his overall demeanor, Detroit Renaissance junior point guard, Justin Turner, has had a quiet recruitment. But that's the way he likes it. The 6-3 Turner has offers from the likes of Toledo, Detroit, Oakland, Buffalo, Central Michigan, and a few others, but hopes to add some bigger offers to his already solid offer-sheet, before he makes a college decision.
"As of right now, no one really stands out, as I'm weighing all options still," he said. "I still have a good number of schools that are supposed to be watching me play through this July period, so this a big summer for me."

The Michigan Mustangs 17-Under is Turner's AAU team, which is a loaded bunch, and will use his time with them help bolster his recruitment. A smooth combo guard, who can run his team, Turner knows there is still work to do as far as his game goes, and not just the physical aspect of it.
"I'm just going to try to get my name out on a bigger stage now, like on a more national level," said Turner. "For my game, I'm just going to keep on polishing up on all my skill, keep on working on my body, and just come with a different mentality. No more "Mr. Nice Guy. I'm going to bring more of a killer instinct to my game."
Turner has also heard from schools like Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Xavier, St. Bonaventure, Temple, Rice, and Northwestern, along with his offers, so a decision from him won't be coming anytime soon. If all goes well for him, those schools will be added to his list as well, but he's still taking the process day-by-day, making sure he chooses the right schools for him.
"I'll probably cut my list sometime around when the July period ends after AAU," he said. "With the recruiting process, it only comes once, so you want to take your time and not rush. I want to make the right decision, and also enjoy it.
"I'm going to look for the type of system I would like to be in. The coaching staff, and distance will play a factor, depending where the school is, and where I feel I'm wanted."
Turner is coming off of a season with Renaissance, where his team went 13-8, making it all the way to the Detroit Public School League city title game, before falling to Detroit Western by one point. Turner didn't have his best game against them, in what was a trying year for him on the floor, despite averaging 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
"This season I battled a lot of adversity, and alot of different challenges," said Turner. "I also had some injuries, and I never really was 100 percent.
"Getting to the city championship and losing by one hurt, but it was a good experience. We had to learn what it takes to win, so going into senior year we know what it takes, and we're going to know how to block out all the distractions, and everything that comes with it.
The Phoenix lose some key players, but along with Turner, they bring back 6-7 forward Alaric Jackson, point guard Richard Talley, and 6-5 wing Jalen Tobias. As long as their leader, Turner, is healthy, and in a right state of mind, Renaissance will be a top contender in the Detroit PSL again.
"Most of our team is coming back, and we also might be adding some new players to our team, so we're going to be ready," said Turner. "Going into my senior, we're going to be hungry, and looking to get back to Calihan Hall, and make a deeper run in the state playoffs."
