Football was the best move for Cass Tech 2017 DE-LB Zach Morton

One thing is for sure, Detroit Cass Tech has talent. Their roster is so deep with Division I talent, it's almost unreal. Fifteen players on their team have at least one Division I offer, and counting. Junior defensive end, Zach Morton, isn't one of the Technicians household names, but he is certainly a player on the rise. He has big plans for his upcoming junior campaign at Cass Tech.
"This season, I'm looking to establish myself as a dominant player on Cass Tech's defense," said Morton. "The accomplishment I'm looking forward to, is leading the team in sacks."

At 6-4, 225-pounds, there is no questioning Morton's measurables and potential ability, the things schools like the most about the intriguing prospect. Morton hasn't seen much playing time on varsity with Cass Tech, that hasn't stopped schools from offering him. Cincinnati and Toledo have both offered Morton, which sort of came as a surprise to him.
"I really didn't expect to get offers this fast," Morton laughed. "But when I did, I was excited and humbled."
Cass Tech takes an annual college camp tour every summer with its players, which Morton attended this year, which he said was a fun and great experience, and obviously played dividends for him, with his first offer from the Bearcats.
"After the camp, the team went to Buffalo Wild Wings, and the coach came in and told Coach Wilcher to go get me," Morton said of one of the Cincinnati coaches. "He said he liked. he said I was young, athletic, and he liked the way I moved, and he said they were offering me."
Three days later while on the tour, offer No.2 came in y way of the Toledo Rockets.
"The Toledo offer was after the camp," said Morton. "We all got together by position, and the coach liked me, and said that I was talented and athletic. He said they were offering me, and the head coach basically said the same thing when I talked to him. He reiterated that they were offering me."
The Bearcats and Rockets are on Morton's short list of schools that he had heard from so far, and that list will grow as he gains more exposure over the summer and season. The offers will also continue to roll in for Morton, especially with his outstanding size, and raw ability. USC and Miami (Fla.) are on his dream list of schools he hopes to hear from possibly.
"Louisville was an offer I was supposed to get at the camp, but I probably will get it as I progress," said Morton. "I've heard from Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan as well."
Morton has taken an interesting road to his early success. Aside from playing football at Cass Tech, he was also a member of the boys varsity basketball team. Morton is a solid player on the hardwood, but he won't be suiting up for Cass Tech basketball ever again, as football has become his main focus.
"I didn't necessarily stop playing," he said. "My dad pulled me off the team, and made me focus more on football. He kept telling me everyday that football was where my money was at. It was a good decision.
"I am working hard everyday now to make sure I show colleges that they made and are making the right choice as well."
