DETROIT- Jermain Crowell has seen his fair share of elite defensive backs while as defensive coordinator of Detroit Cass Tech for seven years, including guys like Thomas Gordon, Dior Mathis, Jourdan Lewis, Damon Webb, and many more. Now entering his second year as head coach over at Belleville High School, Crowell has another special player in 2018 defensive back Patrick Lupro.

Lupro was one of the standouts in the defensive back groups at the Sound Mind Sound Body Camp in Detroit. He is every bit of his listed 5-10, 185-pounds, but possesses the physicality and competitive demeanor you want out of a defensive back. Lupro had one repetition in 1-on-1s where he stayed on the wide receivers hip, and practically ripped the ball out of his hands for the interception.

"I felt like I had a very good day today working with everybody," said Lupro. "There was good competition out there today, and I am going to use this to get ready for the rest of the summer camp season."

Lupro said that he loves to play physical with wide receivers, and will be making the switch back to safety the upcoming season for Belleville. He already holds three offers from Toledo, Bowling Green, and Eastern Michigan, and talked to coaches from Penn State, Iowa State, and Central Michigan at the camp. Lupro also plans to take visits to Florida and Clemson in the upcoming week.

The on-field aspect of the camp was beneficial to Lupro, but he also raved about the off the field action, being able to hear coaches from Division I schools all over the country speak about football, and life outside of it.

"The classroom session made me really think about how my future is going to be," said Lupro. "It taught me to not do the wrong things, an stay on the right path. This camp overall was a good one.

The recruiting process is in its early stages for Lupro, but the rising junior-to-be is already one of the top players at his position in the state.
