2017 DL Jordan Reid earns first offer

He barely played last season as a sophomore at Detroit Cass Tech, mainly on kickoff duty, as the kicker, of all things, but that doesn't mean Jordan Reid doesn't has talent. Reid had to wait his turn behind upperclassmen, and now it is his time to shine. The 6-4, 290-pounder earned an offer from Western Michigan on Sunday, after an outstanding performance at their big mam camp on Sunday.
The offer is Reid's first of the process, and sort of surprising for someone with limited playing experience as the varsity level.

"It feels good," Reid said of earning his first scholarship offer. "I'm very appreciative, and it was nice talking to Coach Fleck, Coach Reynolds, and the staff.
"They (Western Michigan coaches) told me they loved my size," Reid said. "And they said over the next two years, they can't wait to see how big I get. They also look forward to seeing me at Sound Mind Sound Body, and that they loved building relationships with players."
Even with his limited experience, Reid possesses great size already, and a nice skill set to go with it. He was named one of the top underclassmen at the Cleveland Rivals Camp Series, back in April, and transferred that same type of performance over to the Western Michigan camp, impressing them enough to offer.
"Coach Reynolds (Defensive line coach) talked to me after camp, and said he was very impressed, and that I did a good job. Then he took me up to Coach Fleck (Head coach), and he talked to me, then offered. He said he was impressed as well.
"The camp was very energetic, and a lot of excitement," Reid said. "There was good coaching by the WMU staff."
Reid said the Broncos coaching staff likes him at defensive end for now, but in due time, he thinks he will grow into a defensive tackle. Either way, besides earning his first offer from Western Michigan, there is interest there from him. He liked the campus and football facilities, and would like to hear more from them in the future. They aren't the other schools Reid has been hearing from, though, as he looks to gain some exposure over the summer.
"I've heard a lot from Central Michigan," Reid said. Coach Collins (Cornerbacks coach) likes my talent, and said he cant wait to see me at Sound Mind Sound Body. He comes to Cass Tech often.
"I would like to hear more from Cincinnati, Miami of Ohio, Kent State, Eastern Michigan, and Michigan State, myself. I will be attending Sound Mind Sound Body, and as a team we are going on a road trip through Ohio, and the way to Louisville, Kentucky."
The summer will certainly be a busy one for Reid, who will probably see his recruitment blow-up now that offer No.1 is in. But the season is most important for him. It will be an opportunity for him to prove that he has earned the right to be called a Division I athlete. Although he didn't see much playing time in 2014, Reid did soak up some knowledge playing behind some of the best in then state, and is expecting a big season for himself as well.
"Being behind seniors made me continue to grind, and do good at camps," said Reid. "I learned a lot from Joshua Alabi, who committed to Ohio State. He guided me through the way last year. So now all of this hard work is going to show this upcoming season."
