WR Ways Hopes To Have Instant Impact At Michigan

Current University of Michigan head coach, Brady Hoke, has made it a priority to recruit offensive players who fit the pro-style mold. 2014 wide receiver Maurice Ways does just that. Ways checks in at 6'3" and 200 lbs and follows suit with the recent wolverine wide receiver signees.

Ways posted impressive numbers as a senior at Detroit Country Day grabbing 55 passes, good for 1,261 yards and 16 touchdowns. Wolverine coaches and fans alike are hoping those numbers transfer into his freshman season. The coaches have let Ways know their intentions to play him immediately and avoid a redshirt. "It's exciting knowing I can come in and play. If I do end up redshirting it will be on me. I'm ready for the task to compete."

New Wolverines offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier has already gotten the chance to meet with Ways and explain how he will be used in the offense. "Coach Nuss (Nussmeier) and coach Hecklinski talked about using me on the outside as a "Z". They see me as their big play guy."

The Wolverine coaches also made it clear to Ways on how they expect him to grasp the playbook. "They want me to master seven to eight plays, then progress to 12-15 and so forth." Grasping the playbook will certainly help Ways see the field. Michigan graduates four receivers who contributed to the offense last season, so the opportunity is certainly present for Ways. As a freshman Ways just hopes to "get acclimated to the process and showcase my talent. I want to make my mark and try to become the game changer at outside receiver Michigan needs."

The 2014 class for Michigan features many highly touted recruits and Ways says they have formed a close bond. A far as the goals they have talked about? "We want beat Ohio (State) and (Michigan) State each year, to win the Big Ten title, make the Rose bowl and be able to compete in the new final four playoff system." Ways reiterated that he wants to "return Michigan to glory." Now that he is officially a Michigan Wolverine, that process starts now.
