Mammoth OL Takes Potential To The MAC

Throughout the years the Mid American Conference has been able to find diamond in the rough type players who the larger BCS conference teams miss on. Ball State hopes to have found another in Walled Lake Western offensive tackle Alex Joss. The 6'5" 300 lb Joss has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cardinals and is ready to hit the ground running.

Joss anchored an offensive line at Western that averaged 39 points per game his senior year. Being a 3 year varsity player has helped Joss immensely. "I matured a lot by playing on varsity for three years. I was able to improve each year." That improvement helped mold him into a division 1 football player. The maturity may be in part to Joss being a standout student. "I carry a 3.8 GPA and have taken 2 AP courses." The combination of success in the classroom, as well as on the field are what college football coaches everywhere salivate over.

With signing day here Joss is glad the recruiting process is over. "The recruiting process is different with each school. Some schools give promises but they never happen." Joss ran into a minor bump in the road when his lead recruiter from BSU took a position at Wake Forest. "It didn't factor in to my decision because I know (Ball State) will bring in the right guy."

His comfort level and confidence in the Ball State program is partly due to the relationships he developed with his future teammates. "On my official I was able to meet some of the current and future players, I really enjoyed all of them." Those relationships will be crucial if Joss hopes to accomplish the goals he set for the team and himself. "I want to win a MAC championship and win multiple bowl games down at BSU."

As for some personal goals Joss stated "I'd like to become a multiyear starter and earn first team all MAC honors." Joss carries some lofty goals, but with his work ethic and ability, the sky is certainly the limit.
